Plant early for generous harvests
By the first week of January, caprese salads, "aperitif hedgehogs," and bruschetta were already on our minds. That's when we began planting tomatoes in our greenhouses. This launches a growing season that lasts until the end of November.
Why so early? "So that the plants grow strong and the harvests are abundant in the summer," explains Ana-Maria Costea, who is in charge of the tomato crops. "The peak of production is around the end of May, beginning of June. But by mid-March, the first fruits are there, as tasty as in the middle of summer."
Production that meets strong demand
The Swiss love tomatoes. With nearly 10 kg consumed per person each year, they are among the most popular vegetables. While demand increases in summer, they remain available year-round.
"By growing tomatoes on substrate in greenhouses, we create ideal conditions for them, allowing us to harvest them for more than eight months a year," emphasizes Julien Stoll, Production Director. It's a concrete way to meet the Swiss appetite for tomatoes, without compromising on origin or freshness.

Diversity and flavors
At Stoll Frères, tomatoes are a matter of passion. Nearly 151,000 tons of Swiss tomatoes sold in our country come from our greenhouses. Round, vine, cherry, red, yellow... we grow a wide variety. They are sold under the Swiss Red and Coop Primagusto labels, among others.

For gourmets, we also offer YOOM® purple tomatoes, under the ArteGusto brand, which we created in partnership with other market gardeners who, like us, share a taste for good things.
From March to November, our tomatoes accompany all dishes and all desires, with the quality that we expect from a locally grown product.
